Humberston is a bustling village in North East Lincolnshire, just south of Cleethorpes. History of Humberston

Humberston village dates back to 870 when the Danes landed at the site and named it after the Humber Stone. Over the centuries, it developed into a village, with its own church built 700 years ago; St Peter’s Church, on the site of the former Humberston Abbey. In recent years, it has become a visitor attraction thanks to its attractive beach and has plenty of visitor amenities including a caravan park, recreation area and park, and various pubs, cafes and restaurants. 

The village is also a popular spot with people working and commuting to the nearby towns of Cleethorpes, Lincoln and Scunthorpe and the travel is made easy with the accessible road network in particular. Those who enjoy cycling will find it easy to get about on the local roads, with various bike lanes in place.

 

Location and Travel in Humberston

Humberston is close to Cleethorpes and Grimsby and is located on the A1031. The A18 and A46 are nearby, offering fast access to neighbouring areas such as Rothwell, Waltham, Laceby, Healing, Riby and Kealing. Lincoln and Scunthorpe are also highly accessible. Humberstone has regular bus services throughout the week, with buses running up to every half hour during peak periods. The main bus stops are on Church Lane and Bedford Road, and the closest railway station is in nearby Cleethorpes.

 

Local Amenities in Humberston

Humberstone has its own comprehensive Academy school, in addition to a range of visitor attractions. Cleethorpes Country Park is nearby with its extensive wildlife areas and visitor facilities, and the Humberstone Fitties Conservation Area is in the village and is a key local attraction. The Haven Holidays Thorpe Park is also located in Humberstone, close to the beach. 

 

The village itself has a football team and pitch, various shops, pubs and eateries, and a great range of outdoor walking and cycling opportunities. Other attractions include nearby golf courses and a cinema, not to mention the coastline and all of the opportunities for leisure and recreation that entails.
