A Bit About Bingham

Bingham is a small and pretty market town located in Nottinghamshire. It’s popular with families and commuters who work in Nottingham and is well situated for access to the stunning surrounding countryside in the Vale of Belvoir. 

Bingham, or Bingheham, was listed as far back as the Domesday Book in the medieval ages, where Roger de Busli was noted as owning lands in the area and setting up the priory. Throughout the middle ages, it was an important and busy town, both from an ecclesiastical perspective and for the meetings of the Bingham Hundred, as Nottinghamshire was split into six areas at the time. All Saints Church has an interesting and rich history of its own, and the town has experienced many developments over the years, particularly as its population grew.

Location and Travel

Located on the A46 and A52 intersection, Bingham is perfectly located for easy travel around Nottinghamshire and beyond. Nottingham is only 9 miles away, Newark-on-Trent is 11 miles away and Grantham is 14 miles away. 

There is a regular bus service on offer by Trentbarton, heading into Nottingham and other local destinations. There is also a railway station in the town which has an hourly service to Grantham, Nottingham, Skegness and other onward destinations.

Local Amenities

Bingham was originally thought of as a dormitory town for nearby Nottingham, but it is now a busy town in its own right and has a good range of restaurants, local shops, takeaways and pubs. There are a number of sports and leisure clubs, and a leisure centre which has a swimming pool. There is a regular market in the town and a monthly farmer’s market with plenty of local producers and speciality foods. 

To the north of the town, there is an industrial estate with around forty businesses and this is a major source of local employment. Key attractions include Belton House, Holme Pierrepont Hall, Holme Pierrepont Park and waterpark – which is also the location of the national watersports centre – and the River Trent.
