A Bit About Howbery Park

Now an award-winning centre for business, Howbery Park dates back to 1850 when the grand Manor House was built. Over the years, its ownership passed from nobility to politicians and has hosted visits from members of the Royal Family including Prince Henry who camped there as a soldier in 1927 and Queen Elizabeth who stayed there in 1956. During and after the war it housed US servicemen and refugees before being developed into the modern commercial centre it is today.

Location and Travel

The park occupies a glorious setting in 70 acres of parkland beside the Thames, 13 miles south of Oxford and is easily reached by car on the A4130 from Henley to Didcot. There is free onsite parking, a staff car share scheme and complimentary taxi service to Wallingford, just 2 miles away. All the surrounding towns are within cycling distance while Didcot Parkway train station, just a short taxi ride away, connects with the Reading to Paddington service which reaches London in 30 minutes. The airports at Heathrow and Luton are almost equidistant, only about 30 miles away.

Local amenities

Howbery Park consists of a variety of modern and Victorian buildings and is home to a huge range of businesses from across the South Oxford area. As well as a café, a gym, tennis courts and a nursery, it is also the UK’s first solar-powered business park, making it a pioneer of sustainability. Canoeing and boat trips are available nearby as well if you fancy doing something slightly different in your lunch break or on your day off.

The nearby market town of Wallingford was the home of Agatha Christie and is one of the filming locations for Midsomer Murders. It has branches of major national retailers and banks as well as independent shops. A diverse collection of restaurants can be found in the town centre, mostly on the High Street but also in central locations including St Mary’s Street and St Martin’s Street. Bars and restaurants abound. The Wallingford Corn Exchange hosts regular film shows and live performances.

Being based at Howbery Park gives you easy access to the wonderful sights and experiences in the area, such as the riverside Wallingford Castle and Gardens, the Aston Martin Museum on Drayton St in Leonard and the delightful Cholsey to Wallingford heritage railway based on Hithercroft Road which runs regular 45-minute steam train rides through the glorious Oxfordshire countryside.
