A Bit About Southmoor

Southmoor is a pretty village located in Kingston Bagpuize, around 6 miles from Abingdon in Oxfordshire. It’s located close to the A420 between Swindon and Oxford, making it a popular spot for commuters who seek a taste of rural life, but with access to work and leisure in town. Thanks to the excellent road network and regular public transport, Southmoor is a good spot for commuters, families and for business start-ups, especially with fast broadband and nearby business hubs in Swindon, Abingdon and Oxford.

History

Southmoor was historically linked with Longworth, the ancient parish and Manor, which dates back to the Domesday Book. At the time, the village sat within Berkshire. The Manor passed in time to St John’s College of Oxford, which is still its owner. The village has benefited from private money and Blandy charities and has a school, library and playground as a result. It’s always been a sleepy little village, but its location means that it’s popular with commuters who enjoy its beautiful location and easy access to Oxford, Swindon and beyond.

Location and Travel

Southmoor has plenty of buses served by Stagecoach, with services running to Oxford and Swindon up to every twenty minutes during the week and on Saturdays. There are also bus services towards Witney and Abingdon. Southmoore is also located close to the A420, which makes it a great dormitory location for anyone working or visiting Oxford or Swindon. The village is also well served for access to Oxford’s surrounding business and science parks. The nearest railway stations are in Oxford and Swindon, and these offer high speed access to London, the North and to other key business hubs across the UK.

Local Amenities

Alresford House and Fallowfield Falconry are two of the popular local tourist attractions in Southmoor, and there are various other private homes, gardens and venues to visit. There is also a park and recreation area for children and a couple of good pubs serving real ale and good food. The area is filled with fantastic spots for walking and cycling, and there are easy links to Oxford along canals and roads, making this area popular with outdoor enthusiasts and horse riders. There are plenty of attractive historic houses to see, a village church and other sights and sounds of village life in this very desirable, beautiful part of the world.
