Training Workshops

Absence management

Absence from work can place an enormous burden on the colleagues left to pick up the workload, reduce productivity and ultimately affect profit.  At its worst it can create a downward spiral of stress, demotivation and a culture of disengaged employees.  So why are we so reluctant to tackle it?

This workshop will look at procedures proven to reduce absenteeism in the workplace and give you the confidence to tackle short term absence, manage long term illness, return to work interviews and monitoring.

Handling Conflict and Difficult Conversations

Do you avoid talking about a difficult subject or having a conversation with that ‘tricky’ employee?

In this workshop we look at how to manage a difficult conversation from a relaxed beginning to a constructive outcome, what makes a conversation difficult and how we can resolve this and how to stay in control of unexpected, difficult people situations.

Getting to Grips with Grievances

Have you ever wondered how that grumble turned into a complaint which turned into a grievance and all of a sudden everyone seems to be involved? Employees can quickly become disgruntled, unsettled and management can be blamed for not dealing with it.

Dissatisfaction and injustice at work, whether actual or imagined, can result in bad feelings amongst employees.

In this workshop we look at the likely causes of grievances and how they can be minimised, the steps required to manage them effectively, how to conduct a thorough investigation and the possible consequences of not dealing with them successfully (or at all!).

Facing up to Stress and Mental Health

Mental health problems are the leading cause of sickness absence. A staggering 40 million work days are lost each year due to mental health problems in the UK.

In this workshop we look at the effects of stress on the individual and the organisation and strategies for minimising, responding to and tackling it in the workplace.

Performance Appraisals

Are you thinking of introducing performance appraisals or already have a system in place which has fallen by the wayside?

When introduced and implemented correctively performance appraisals can be powerful management tools to provide feedback, gain staff engagement and develop a culture which fosters open communication, development and shared goals.

We look at the advantages and pitfalls of performance appraisals, their introduction, suggested content and the skills required to ensure they are effective.

Recruitment and Selection

This workshop looks at best practice in recruitment and selection, and ways to attract the best talent from the start and keep them engaged throughout the process and notice period thereby providing the foundations for a successful and rewarding work relationship.

Performance Management

Getting it right from the very start of employment during the probationary period, nipping it in the bud and ongoing performance management will be covered in this workshop.  We look at case studies and get your thoughts on the best course of action to take.

The Art of Investigation

With the removal of employment tribunal fees, it has become even more important to ensure that you follow a robust procedure.  You may have procedurally followed the ACAS code for carrying out the hearing but if you rely on a flawed investigation then so is the rest!

We look at how to carry out a thorough investigation, getting witness statements and documentation.

Bullying and harassment

Harassment and bullying behaviour in the workplace is unpleasant and offensive. It can affect an individual’s professional performance and psychological welfare and can be so destructive that the effects continue after work, devastating personal lives as well as careers. Harassment and bullying can result in low morale, increased sickness absence or resignations.

This workshop covers what actions constitute bullying and harassment, the impact on the victim, the organisation and the accused.  We look at how you can minimise the risk of this happening in your workplace and how you should handle a complaint.

Dealing with Disciplinaries

It’s not always the most enjoyable part of being a manager but sometimes we need to face the facts – disciplinary action may be required.

In this workshop we look at a disciplinary process that works for smaller and medium sized businesses but follows best practice within a legal framework.  What happens first, who gets involved, paperwork, investigations, hearings and appeals, we cover the whole process.

We do not have a training room, can we still organise a workshop?

Yes, of course.  You can either arrange a venue or we can hold it in a training room local to us.  This would incur a small additional fee.

I only have a couple of people who I would like to attend the course which means the price per head is quite expensive.  What can I do?

You could get together with another company and share the expense.  Alternatively, if there are a number of courses you would like your employees to attend you could sign them up to the Management Development Programme.

I’m not sure you offer exactly what I need.  Can the course be tailor-made?

Absolutely!  Listed is just a selection of courses we offer but we can mix them up should you wish, to ensure that the course content is exactly what you are looking for.

What dates are the courses?

There are no set dates.  We will work with you to agree a convenient date for you.
