History

Chipping Sodbury was founded by the Earl of York, William le Gros, in the 12th century. In the 2011 census, Chipping Sodbury recorded a population of just 5,045, however this has increased significantly in recent years with the expansion of the town of Yate situated to the west of the area.

Location and Travel

Positioned just eight miles to the north-west of the city of Bristol, Chipping Sodbury is remarkably well connected for such a charming and historic market town. It is also just a few minutes away from both the M4 and M5 motorways, which run between Bristol and Bath.

Notably, Old Sodbury village is situated to the east, which offers spectacular views towards Bristol across the Severn plain. Additionally, Little Sodbury village is home to a majestic 15th century manor house and a historically significant hill fort which dates to the Iron Age.
