History

Emersons Green is a Bristol parish and suburb in South Gloucestershire. It was developed relatively late, after farming land was transformed into housing in the early 1990s. It has continued to develop, with the area sitting within Mangotsfield, a historic parish. The area itself has a long history of being a coal mining zone, with mining operations being particularly busy in the 19th century. 

A reactivated quarry now sits in the south of Emersons Green. However, the location is now known for technology and science, with the Bristol & Bath Science Park sitting by the M4 and employing 6,000 skilled people in the locale. Some of the other major employers in the area include Frenchay Hospital, UWE, and Filton. 

The area is quiet, friendly and attractive to look at, with plenty of mature trees, charming little cafes and a relaxed atmosphere, with great access to nearby green spaces and the major attractions of Bristol and Bath, which are easy to commute to from Emersons Green.

Location and Travel

Emersons Green is located within Bristol and just off the M4, which gives the area easy access by road. The A4174 comes directly off the M4 and passes through the area to Warmley and Kingswood, and the M32 intersects Emersons Green and heads directly into Bristol. Emersons Green is also well served by local public transport, including Metro buses and trains that stop at Bristol Parkway nearby. There are also plenty of bike routes, taxis and walking routes in this well-connected part of the world. In addition to being close to Bristol, it’s also an accessible spot for Bath.

Local Amenities

Emersons Green is a growing area and it has some good amenities for the many residential areas that are springing up in its postcode, including the nearby locations of Mangotsfield and Downend. There is a busy village hall with plenty of classes and activities and a shopping area with a retail park. Locals enjoy various excellent gastro pubs and restaurants, including takeaways and international restaurants. 

The Bristol-Bath Cycling Track is popular with families, and there are various health and fitness service providers in the area, in addition to good schools for families.
