Providing HR Support to Nine Elms

Businesses

Constant growth and change mean that businesses in Nine Elms could particularly benefit from HR support. If you are launching a new enterprise to take advantage of this rapidly modernising area, you may need help with recruitment and contracts to ensure you meet your legal obligations, whilst expanding businesses need to plan any reorganisation carefully.

To ensure you can sustain your new business, you need to remain on top of training, record-keeping and appraisals. Long term viability also depends on good health and safety procedures and looking after staff welfare. In addition, even the best-run businesses will encounter occasional problems that require a disciplinary and grievance procedure or may even involve an employment tribunal.

The HR Dept can advise you at every step of the HR process, from recruitment to redundancies and everything in between.

A Bit About Nine Elms

History

A road lined with elm trees gave Nine Elms its name back in 1645. At the time it was a swampy area thanks to regular overflow from the nearby River Thames. It would later become an important industrial area, home to waterworks, gasworks, locomotive works and probably most famously, Battersea Power Station.

Nine Elms was also the birthplace of Vauxhall Motors. In the 21st Century, regeneration and development efforts have led to an increase in modern residential and commercial properties. It also recently became home to the American Embassy, which left its previous location in Grosvenor Square, with the Dutch Embassy also indicating an interest in the area.

Location and Travel

Nine Elms is in the Borough of Wandsworth, in South West London. Its neighbours include Battersea, Lambeth and Vauxhall, with Pimlico directly across the Thames. The history of Nine Elms is closely tied to the railway. In 2021 the Northern Line Extension opened, including two Tube stations: Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms. Nearby Vauxhall is a significant interchange for rail, bus and Tube. Nine Elms bus routes include the 452 and 436, and the London Riverbus can be accessed through two separate piers.

Pedestrians and cyclists can take advantage of an expanding network of other foot and cycle paths, including the Thames River Path. Plans exist for a new pedestrian and cycle bridge to connect the area to Westminster across the river.

Local Amenities

The rapid pace of development is quickly expanding the range of amenities available in Nine Elms. For example, Embassy Gardens provided just under 2000 new homes together with shops, cafés, restaurants, playgrounds, sports pitches, a hotel and a health centre round the site of the new US Embassy building.

There are also older amenities, such as New Covent Garden, which since the 1970s has been the capital’s biggest supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables. Nearby green spaces include Battersea Park and Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. There are galleries and displays of public art throughout the area. Festivals and shows are regular parts of the cultural life of Nine Elms.
