A Bit About Oval

Located in south London, Oval is situated within the borough of Lambeth and incorporates part of Kennington and the River Thames. Oval is a popular place to live and work, with many individuals and businesses calling the area home.

History

Oval gets its name from a street layout that was designed in the late 1700s but never fully completed. Land in the area was used as a market garden in the 17th century and during the mid 1800s it became the birthplace of Surrey County Cricket Club.

Location and Travel

Oval sits on the border between south-east and south-west London where the SE11 postcode converges with SW8 and SW9. The area is just over two miles from Charing Cross and is well connected to the rest of London and beyond.

There are several tube stations within easy reach, including Oval, Vauxhall, Stockwell, Nine Elms and Kennington, and the area is well served by taxis and buses. Its proximity to the River Thames also facilitates river travel and there are daily ferries available from St. George Wharf Pier with routes to an array of London landmarks.
