HR Consultant in Kilburn

Kilburn is located in the Amber Valley borough of Derbyshire, just six miles north of the city of Derby. This popular village boasts a population of more than 3,600, with excellent connections to many of the major towns and cities in both Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

History

Although the area has been known as Kilburn for the last century, it was previously known as Kilbourne. As with many other areas in this part of the East Midlands, Kilburn was once home to a variety of industries, including several brickyards and a glass works. In the 19th century, coal mining prompted a period of rapid growth until the Kilburn colliery was closed for good in the late 1960s. Over the last six decades, the area has been a popular commuter village, as it has strong connections with Nottingham and Derby.

Location and Travel

Positioned just a stone’s throw away from the A38, Kilburn residents are well-connected to major centres including Derby, Nottingham, Ripley, Alfreton, Chesterfield, and Mansfield. The M1 motorway isn’t far away, which connects the area with Leicester, Northampton, and Sheffield.

In terms of public transportation, Kilburn is located close to Duffield and Belper railway stations. Belper station is served by East Midlands Trains and is positioned on a line that runs between Matlock and Derby. Duffield station is also served by East Midlands Trains and is positioned on the Midland Main Line running between Leeds and Derby.

Local Amenities

Kilburn is home to an array of pubs and bars, many of which also serve delicious food made from locally sourced ingredients. Locals also have access to a thriving village hall and post office, with young families also benefiting from a popular junior school. Many of the village shops can be found on Chapel Street, which is named after the local Methodist Chapel that dates from 1891.

Kilburn is a short distance away from Belper, which boasts a variety of facilities including a leisure centre, secondary school, and nature reserve. Denby Pottery is also within easy reach, as is the National Trust-owned Duffield Castle.
