What is the Kickstart Scheme?

The Kickstart scheme is funded by the Government and provides opportunities to create new jobs over a 6-month period, for 16-to-24-year old’s receiving Universal Credit.

 

What does the Government funding cover?

  • 100% of the National Minimum Wage (or the National Living Wage depending on the age of the participant) for 25 hours per week for a total of 6 months.
  • Associated employer National Insurance contributions.
  • Minimum automatic enrolment pension contributions.
  • A grant of £1,500 per job to cover setup costs and employability support.

What do you as a business need to offer a Kickstart?

  • A job specification for the position available.
  • An interview process, to include reviewing applications and formal interview.
  • During the placement, the young person should receive support in developing their skills and experience to ensure they are work-ready upon completion of their placement.
  • All young people should receive careers advice, goal setting and CV writing and interview skills, along with self-development within the role they are performing, to encourage future prospects.

How can the HR Dept help?

As an approved Kickstart gateway the HR Dept can apply on your behalf so you can focus on supporting your new Kickstart recruit(s)*.

The HR Dept will support with the following:

  • The application process, submitted on your behalf.
  • The job advert and posting with the Job Centre Plus.
  • A dedicated careers hub to support your Kickstart with the employability skills as required as part of the scheme**

Employers have until 17th December to submit their application for a funded placement and until March 2022 to recruit their Kickstart.

*As an approved gateway The HR Dept does not charge to process a Kickstart application and the business will receive 100% of their funding and grant.

**The access to the careers hub is an optional, if required, a chargeable 3-month or 6-month one-off subscription is available.
