HR Consultant in Biggin Hill

History

Biggin Hill was historically a settlement known as Aperfield located in the county of Kent, but in 1965 when the London County Council was replaced by the Greater London Council which covered a larger area, it became part of the London borough of Bromley. It is situated on the south-eastern outskirts of London with good transport links into the city.

Biggin Hill is home to St Mark’s Church which was designed by Richard Gilbert Scott and erected in the 1950s by volunteers and decorated by Rev Vivian Symons. This church is famously referred to as the “Moving church” as it was predominantly built from the ruins of All Saints Church in North Peckham.

Location and Travel

Biggin Hill is over 210 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest points in the Greater London area. It is situated 15.2 miles south-southeast of Charing Cross and within easy reach of Keston, New Addington and Tatsfield.

The area is well served by road and rail links, being only 17 minutes from Hayes Railway Station and with easy access to the M25, A21, A22, A223 and A233. There are three bus routes operating within the Biggin Hill area which are the 246, 320 and R2.

Formerly home to RAF Biggin Hill, which was a principal fighter base that was responsible for protecting London from German bombers during the Battle of Britain, it is now home to Biggin Hill airport, offering flights to Paris, Budapest and Geneva amongst other overseas destinations, as well as a six-minute private flight shuttle into the centre of London.
