Nestle Academy boosts job opportunities for young people

Friday January 29, 2021

Nestlé UK & Ireland has increased the number of places it offers in its award-winning academy. It is hoped that some of those places will be hosted at the Trowbridge Staverton factory, which manufactures cereal products for the global brand.

The number of roles on offer at Trowbridge overall for 2021 has been boosted to 96, up from the current provision of 74 places. With funding for the roles now confirmed, the next stage will be to confirm the sites at which they will be hosted.

Nestlé’s HR director for the UK & Ireland, Paul Steadman, said that the company had recognised that the UK was currently experiencing a challenging time for employment and that young people were being particularly hard-hit. He added that Nestlé recognised that it was daunting for young people to start their careers at the best of times, so had created programmes, such as the one at the Staverton site in Trowbridge, to offer a structured, skilled and highly-transferable development programme to successful applicants which would fast-track their careers within their chosen field.

The Nestlé Academy has won awards for its quality and results, with a long history of helping to support employment amongst young people. As a continued sign of its ongoing commitment, it will increase the number of recruitment spaces for its programmes in the coming year, helping more young people into skilled careers. The 96 roles will be placed across 24 apprenticeship programmes which will span various functions such as digital technology, manufacturing processes, packaging, product development, marketing and corporate support functions.

There will also be seven varied graduate schemes across manufacturing, support operations, development, technology and corporate functions along with three internships to offer valuable work experience for young people keen to experience working life at Nestlé.

The full list of recruiting schemes can be found on the Nestle website. Applicants should also apply via this website.

About the Nestlé Academy

The Nestlé Academy was created to help young people develop their careers within the rapidly changing manufacturing industry. One of the main focuses of the Academy lies in digital innovation in which skilled, young talent is desperately needed across UK manufacturing. Every year, the Academy takes on successful applicants who follow structured apprenticeship frameworks within the company, accruing recognised qualifications as they progress, together with highly-valuable on-the-job work experience.

Students build their network, blend theoretical and real-world learning for greater insight, benefit from mentoring, and experience a mix of classroom-based learning and hands-on work within their operational site. At the end of the student’s programme, the hope is that they will secure a permanent role at Nestle.

The Academy is also heavily committed to encouraging the full spectrum of diversity and inclusion and ensuring that its student places represent the surrounding community. This work is being driven by the respective HR departments of the Academy and its partner businesses, with HR playing a key role in supporting and facilitating diversity within the workplace for higher productivity, innovation and morale.

With the Trowbridge site being a major employer in Wiltshire, this is good news for the region and a sign that large corporations are still keen to invest in future talent.
