Good Energy invests further £1m in Chippenham Green Car Company

Thursday July 29, 2021

A Chippenham renewable energy company is helping to build a future of eco-friendly transportation, by investing in an innovative electric vehicle mapping service.

A Large Investment

Good Energy has an ethos of powering a greener, cleaner world, and has been supplying entirely renewable energy to homes and businesses for over twenty years. This electricity and gas supplier is now investing £1 million in a service for electrical vehicle users.

The service by ZapMap, which takes the form of an app and digital platform, is the UK’s leading tool for drivers of electrical vehicles looking for information about charging points, journey planning, and connecting with other eco-conscious road users. It already covers more than 95% of the charge points available across the country, with 70% also showing their current availability status.

Now, with the support provided by Good Energy, ZapMap plans to speed up the switch over to electric vehicles in the UK, and help drive down harmful carbon emissions to net zero levels. ZapMap is already being used every month by more than 130,000 drivers of pure electric and hybrid cars and is considered to be the “go-to data source” for sustainable driving. With the current numbers of such drivers set to increase as traditional petrol and diesel cars are phased out, the investment will undoubtedly help many more drivers access these valuable resources in the future.

A Commitment To Green Transport

Indeed, Good Energy has already shown its commitment to facilitating greener means of transport, having previously acquired a majority share in ZapMap’s parent company Next Green Car. Good Energy’s Founder and Chief Executive, Juliet Davenport, explained “This investment in Zap-Map will allow them to accelerate their proven products and provide much needed services for the growing number of EV drivers in the UK and beyond. With a strong pipeline of opportunities, we are excited about what the future holds for Zap.”

These opportunities include a new partnership with Fleetcor UK, which will integrate ZapMap’s payment solution into its world-leading business payment platform. This will make it easier for commercial fleets and businesses to make use of electrical vehicles. Davenport confirmed “The solution will help to make charging simple for business EV drivers at scale, increase adoption and help drive the UK towards zero emission motoring”.

With the UK government recently committing to reducing carbon emissions by 78% by 2035, and to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, the investment is certainly timely. The decision to ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars by 2030 means that the number of electric vehicles will be rising rapidly in the near future. ZapMap is positioned to be the premier resource for those people as they get to grips with their new, greener transportation. The support provided by Chippenham based Good Energy will, in turn, play a key role in ensuring that the platform can scale successfully to meet this future demand.
