A Bit About Morden
History
Morden is located in Purbeck in Dorset, and it’s an ancient part of the world which has long had agricultural roots. The village has its own church; St Mary’s, which was restored in 1873 and which still has an original tower dating back to the thirteenth century.
Figures from the 2011 census show that the parish was home to a population of 323 people and 141 households, making it a particularly small village. Morden is popular with people who are commuting to Poole, Southampton, Winchester, Portsmouth and even up to London, as it has easy transport links and good broadband connectivity for those who work from home. The quality of housing is good and includes plenty of attractive older houses, some of which have listed status.
Location and Travel
Morden is located around 6 miles away from Poole, and it’s a great spot for commuters wishing to access the town whilst enjoying country life. Nearby hamlets include West Morden, East Morden and Whitefields. The train to London Waterloo takes around three and a half hours, and you can get a bus to the Capital in just under six hours on average.
Nearby roads include the A31 and the A35, both of which make it easy to access the M27 for Southampton, Portsmouth and beyond. There are local bus services for travelling around the area, and plenty of accessible roads and routes for cyclists. Although Morden is in a rural area, it’s very well connected to the busy south coast, which has excellent public transport and road access to all the major work and visitor attractions on the south coast.
Local Amenities
The beauty of Morden lies in its rural location and countryside attractions. It has its own pub, which is popular with visitors and locals for its ales and food. Nearby Charborough is a local attraction with its listed mansion and extensive visitor park. There is also a small parish church, which is also Grade II listed.
The area has plenty of lovely walks to enjoy, with public footpaths, fantastic views and nearby pubs. Poole, Bournemouth and the many pretty villages scattered around Dorset are also well worth exploring, with the coastline a huge attraction with plenty to see and do.
