A Bit About Immingham

Located in North East Lincolnshire, the town of Immingham occupies an excellent position on the east coast of England, which means that it is a great place to both live and work.

History

Immingham is home to Saint Andrew’s church, which dates to the 13th century. There is archaeological evidence of an abandoned village to its northern side, as well as evidence of salt making in the area.

Until the early 1900s, Immingham and the surrounding areas were largely undeveloped and unpopulated. The arrival of the Great Central Railway changed everything, particularly as it led to the development of Immingham Dock, which is now known as the Port of Immingham. This led to the area serving as a base during World War I for British D class submarines.

By the early 1980s, the population of Immingham had increased to more than 11,500, making it the fourth most populous town in North Lincolnshire.

Location and Travel

Stallingborough and Habrough railway stations are both within easy reach of Immingham, both of which are on the Barton line and provide connections to Barton-on-Humber and Cleethorpes. On weekdays, Habrough station is served by the TransPennine Express service, which runs between Cleethorpes and Liverpool Lime Street. Additionally, East Midlands Railway operates a service running between Leicester and Grimsby Town, which stops at Habrough.

The town also benefits from good road connections. The European E22 route runs through Immingham, as does the A160 and the A180. Stagecoach East Midlands operates a half-hourly bus service which connects Immingham with the town of Grimsby.

Local Amenities

The town benefits from excellent local amenities, including several supermarkets and convenience stores, many of which are located on or around Pelham Road. There are a handful of green spaces in the town, including a sports complex, which is home to Immingham Town FC, and Homestead Park, which features a scenic pond and children’s play area. The town also boasts a local indoor swimming pool, skate park, cafes and eateries.

Other notable locations around the town include the Pilgrim Father’s Monument and Immingham Museum, which is run by an enthusiastic team and boasts a model railway and a newly opened VR room.
