Home Office reveals BREXIT toolkit for employers

Thursday July 26, 2018

brexitThe Home Office has launched a content toolkit to help employers communicate important BREXIT processes to their EU national employees living in the UK.

The toolkit was constructed with employers. It provides useful information in the form of posters, leaflets, videos and guides that can be shared with non-British national employees. This material clearly outlines how and when EU citizens can apply for pre-settled or settled status in the UK. It will also be translated into 23 European languages.

Since the UK voted to leave the EU in the 2016 referendum there have been many unanswered questions for EU citizens regarding their future status in the UK. The government’s new toolkit aims to address many of these questions, and equip employers with the information and answers they need to best inform their non-British national employees.

Identifying status

The main identifier for status application is the current length of time that an applicant has been residing in the UK. Those that have been a resident of the UK for more than five years by 31st December 2020 are eligible for settled status. Those that will have been living in the UK for less than five years can apply for pre-settled status.

The Home Secretary comments:

“Our settlement scheme will offer security and certainty to EU citizens living in the UK.

The toolkit will help us to reach out to all EU citizens living in this country and help them get their new immigration status”.

What’s in the employer toolkit?

Documents available in the employer toolkit include: How to use the employer toolkit in your organisation or network, communicating the facts to your employees, steps to apply for settled status and also key terminology for the EU Settlement Scheme.

The deadline for applications is on 30th June 2021.
