What is the Employment Rights Bill?
What impact will it have on your business?
How should you be preparing?
Get the answers to all these questions and more by downloading our FREE factsheet, which explores the key areas of the Employment Rights Bill and how they will affect small businesses across the UK.
The Bill, which was published as draft legislation on 10th October 2024, presents 28 separate reforms. We have broken down the key reforms, which will have the biggest impact on SMEs, into six key areas. We still await significant detail on the changes, much of which will come via regulations and consultations, but we now have a pretty clear idea of the direction of travel.
We don’t expect much of these changes to be implemented before 2026, so there is time. However, we would advise you to use that time wisely. Prepare now, to reduce the impact these changes have on your business when they do come into force.
The key changes which will impact on your HR policy include:
- Banning ‘exploitative’ zero-hour contracts
- Enhanced parental and bereavement leave
- Changes to statutory sick pay
- Unfair dismissals
- Making flexible working default
- Increased trade union powers, enforcement and pay
Futureproofing your business involves auditing, reviewing and rewriting policies, changing procedures, additional training, smart recruitment, proper use of probation periods and amended contracts. All of this is easier with an expert by your side.
