Getting the best out of people and navigating the minefield of employment regulation is a key challenge in growing a business. This workshop is perfect for those directly involved in managing people in businesses, both business owners/Directors and line managers. 
This practical approach provides an overview of the key tools which can help a business maximise the contribution its people make to business success and understand how to avoid and deal with some of the most common pitfalls. 

Course Outcomes
The workshop will ensure you:

  • Understand the importance of effective people management to all businesses
  • Understand your key responsibilities when employing people and explore some of the challenges this can present
  • Know to find great people who are right for your business, and how to get the best out of them
  • Know what not to do and how to prevent people problems

Course Outline 
From practical tips covering recruitment, employment law and disciplinary matters, to providing insights into talent management and engagement; this is a great way for you to develop your HR knowledge and understanding. This will be a highly interactive session, with a Q & A at the start which will influence the course content so that it addresses delegates’ real issues and prioirities.

Trainer Profile

Ian Pilbeam, heads up the HR Dept Edinburgh & the Lothians team. With nearly 30 years HR experience, Ian has a wealth of experience in helping businesses to ensure success through their people, be legally compliant and handle tricky people issues. As a business owner himself, Ian understands the challenges that come with running and growing a business.

We have a regular programme of workshops and training courses which you can book one or more places at.  Our workshops and training courses are normally held at our training facility in Sutton.  Our current Management Essentials Programme includes:

A programme of eight workshops aimed at line managers and supervisors

Effective line management is essential in achieving the best from the team.  Managers and supervisors need to have the confidence in their teams, encouraging improved performance and maintaining standards.  Our management essentials programme gives them the tools and the knowledge to act with assurance and within the legal framework of employment law.

Practical and interactive workshops in small groups.  A comprehensive mix of training and coaching for managers, tailored to meet the needs of those who attend. Choose either the whole programme or select individual courses as appropriate.

Delivered in eight half day workshops, over eight months at our offices in Sutton, with start dates throughout the year.  The programme can also be run in house for groups of up to 10.

The programme of half day workshops includes:

  • Disciplinary and Grievance
  • Managing Conflict
  • Communicating with Confidence
  • Managing Absence
  • HR Administration

Working through case studies and other ‘real-life’ examples, participants will receive a host of practical tips. These workshops are aimed at line managers or those who have supervisory responsibilities and day-to-day management of others.
