Is your business ready for GDPR in May 2018?

We are delighted to speaking at this event on 29th November

More information and to book on Eventbrite

WTF is GDPR?

We have four speakers from the worlds of IT, Marketing, Legal and HR who will share their knowledge with you. GDPR affects all areas of your business so come along and learn how a joined-up approach is needed to safeguard your company.
As an IT company we are aware that Cyber security and GDPR is not just an IT issue. It will affect all areas of your business which is why we have teamed up with our friends at:

Wright Johnston & McKenzie LLP
GDPR comes into force on 25 May, 2018 and one of its primary aims is to give more control back to individuals over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU.

39Steps
Do you know how GDPR will affect your Marketing Department? If your business uses email marketing, sends direct mail or makes sales calls, the law is changing what you can and can’t do.
Some things you might do today will no longer be allowed.  It’s tempting to think “I’ll deal with it in May”.  But there’s some easy things you should do right now, which mean you won’t run into trouble later.

The HR Dept Edinburgh and the Lothians
Don’t panic! It’s not too late to get ready, as long as you start now.
Your HR department will be crucial to preparing your business to comply with the new GDPR in regard to data held on employees, contractors, volunteers and job applicants.

Cyber Essentials & GDPR Expert
The Government-backed Cyber Essentials accreditation provides a comprehensive set of guidelines that, when followed, provide the best outcome to reducing the risk to any business.

GDPR isn’t just for big businesses – a gym that offers a members’ loyalty scheme or a one-person chiropractor that asks patients to complete a wellbeing form will have to ensure that personal data is stored in line with the new regulations and not breach them.

As employees no longer need to pay to bring a claim to an employment tribunal, this workshop outlines what you need to be aware of in managing disciplinary and poor performance issues and what could constitute a grievance.

We will cover:

  • The need to comply with the ACAS Code of Conduct, taking you through the steps that you need to follow for disciplinary and grievance matters.
  • Understanding the differences between capability and conduct.
  • The importance of the need for thorough investigations and the role of the ‘investigating officer’, including how to carry out effective disciplinary investigations.
  • ‘Short service dismissals’ and how they may differ compared to those with longer service of over 2 years.

Through a mix of exercises and small group discussions we will consider case examples for managing disciplinary and grievance issues.  You will leave this ‘hands-on’ workshop with practical tips and actions you can put into practice as soon as you step back into the workplace.

This course is essential for any manager or supervisor who has responsibility for conducting disciplinary or grievance investigations or meetings.  An employment tribunal will expect that any person having responsibility for such matters has received the appropriate training.

HR and Employment Law is crucial for any business owner to be aware of; the law is the same regardless of the number of employees.

Getting things wrong or ‘not knowing what you don’t know’ is not a defence in an Employment Tribunal.

Can you afford the risk which could amount to thousands of pounds and reputational damage?

The aim of this Seminar is to provide a broad and practical overview of HR and Employment Law issues which any business owner or manager needs to be aware of.

This Seminar will cover the following:

  • Self-employed, worker and employee’ – do you understand the differences, how and when you should use, the contracts that need to be issued and the risks of getting this wrong?
  • Holidays – how to calculate and ensure compliance for part time and zero hours staff
  • Discrimination risks and where they can arise from recruitment through to dismissal
  • Managing Absence including sickness and what rights employees have to statutory time off for other absences e.g. maternity, paternity, emergency dependant leave and flexible working
  • Disciplinary and Grievance – how to discipline staff and deal with grievances
  • What the costs could be of ‘getting it wrong’ if you receive an Employment Tribunal claim
